[Blind User] Compiz Is Not Working

    Hello, everyone.

I am a partially blind user.

I decided to create a bootable USB partition on my flash drive last night, and I decided to use Knoppix as it looked like a great choice.

Knoppix booted up very smoothly, and all seems to work but sound and Compiz. I am not so much worried about the sound as I am compiz, as I rely heavily on the enhanced Zoom Desktop (eZoom) plugin in order to use the system. My computer si capable of 3D Effects, so I am not sure what to do. Here are a few specs.

    computer: HP Pavilion Desktop p6607c
    CPU: AMD Athlon II X2
    RAM 4 GB
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430

Is there any way that I can get compiz to work?

Please keep in mind that I am completely new to Knoppix, but I have used Ubuntu for about five years.

    Thanks for any input.

    Take care.

Are you using the Adriane version of Knoppix for the visually impaired? Or are you relying on the plugin you mentioned in the "regular" Knoppix. If you haven't heard and felt the Adriane system, just type in 'adrianne' at the boot prompt...

    Cheers!

p.s. It would definitely require the sound to work! Perhaps you can dig up the details on the sound chip/board and let us know what is required. Compiz requires hardware acceleration capability from the graphics subsystem.

    Greetings RKColwe & Krishna.

It looks like 'Super M' is one key Compiz command that RKColwe may be looking-for.
It provides a magnified version of a fraction of the screen.

On my Dell laptop 'Super' is the Windows key third from the left
on the bottom row (nearest) the typer. 'M' can be caps or not.

This two-key command is a toggle: do it again to remove the magnification.

I'm using a fairly standard LiveUSB version of Knoppix 6.7.1 built from
    the non-Adriane LiveCD.

Hope this helps. Ask questions if it doesn't.

ps: Another key function is Menu>Preferences>Re-start Compiz (the top menu item)

The original poster's question is how to get compiz working on his computer.
It's not how to use compiz on his computer.

    Hello there.

thanks for the replies thus far.

My system has the capabilities to run Compiz, but I am wondering if the fact that my graphics card and sound card are integrated would be the cause of this issue for me.

My video card is an integrated nVidia GeForce 6150SE, nForce 430.
My sound card is an integrated Realtek ALC888S.

I just downloaded ADRIANE Knoppix v6.7.1, so I will see if this makes any difference. I will try to report back later.

I'm not giving up on this! I think that Knoppix would be great for doing tech work on multiple systems. I love how quickly and how smoothly it runs from a live USB.

Thanks for the information thus far.

    Take care.

Well, it worked! Perfectly, to be exact! Compiz zoomed in and zoomed out using <Super> and scrolling up and down respectively with my mouse wheel! ADRIANE worked wonderfully as well!

I am excited, as I wanted to dedicate one of my flash drives to a single live system with which I could work on computer systems (performing backups, virus scans, etc). I realize that not all systems will likely support everything (sound and Compiz), but I am just glad that it works wonderfully on mine! It even picked up my wireless connection out of the box! This is great!!

Thanks for all of the input!

    Take care.
