I do not know how to set keys to adjust brightness, but you can type in terminal:
xbacklight -set 10 //set brightness to 10% of the maximum
Im using an Asus netbook with Knoppix 6.5 installed to the HD, and when i try to adjust the screen brightness (Fn F7-F, a lot of "H" start typing in any text input, and the brightness won't adjust.
Any ideas?

FWIW, It looks like some Ubuntu Linuxers with ASUS netbooks use kernel
cheat codes and bios updates to solve their brightness problems.

You might look into that and report back if that helps solve the problem
for Knoppix. And good luck.
