can't boot Knoppix from HP Pavilion DV6500

    Hi everyone,

recently my HDD on my Pavilion DV6500 died and as a last resort i thought i should try Knoppix LiveCD to backup whatever i can.
The CD/DVD tray in the notebook is not working so im using a bootable DOK to load up knoppix.
The problem is that when i boot from the DOK, a "Windows Boot Manager" shows up telling me:

"Windows failed to start. A recent Hardware or software change might be the cause. to fix the problem...
    Status: 0xc0000098
Info: The Windows Boot Configuration Data file does not contain a valid OS entry."

when im not trying to boot from the DOK nothing happens (im stuck in a black screen with that prompt thingy)

I should note that i formatted the USB and made it bootable using EasyBCD and then i mounted Knoppix version 6.7.1 iso to a virtual drive and then copied all of the content of that drive to the USB.

I should also note that when i tried downloading Knoppix i only downloaded the .iso file and not all of the other .iso.md5, .iso.md5.asc, .iso.sha1, .iso.sha1.asc files....

    What am i doing wrong?

I assume you've solved the problem, but for future use, when the boot screen fires up on an HP DV6 laptop pressing F9 (usually, it may be different on yours) brings up the boot options (usb, external hard drive, local drive, and so on - whatever you have connected to your laptop that the bios recognises). After pressing F9 you should see a menu, select the option linked to the media you wish to boot off. I notice this is the only way I can get my Win7 desktop to boot into Knoppix from a USB or external drive too.
Hope this helps you, or someone who reads this...
