Installing Java 1.6.23 Jre to run oracle applications, HOW?

windows guy. new to knoppix. have hacked at this till i gave up. anytime i try to touch the knoppix o/s it says it is read only and i can't do a symbolic link to make the java plug in work for 6.7.1 on a usb drive.

can anyone tell me the steps to make java work with iceweasle or firefox?

I have no idea if Knoppix will help you, but a starting point might be:

With IceWeasel or Firefox, go to Tools>AddOns>Search
and use oracle and java as search words to see what's available.

With Synaptic, go to Search and try the same search words.

If anything useful turns up, in either case, it's easy to bring the material in.
If this doesn't help, then the learning curve may be steeper than you'd like.
