Why do you ask within a Linux/ Knoppix Forum about the usage of a Windows tool?
Hi,
So basically I created a complete system image using drive image xml and I am trying to restore this image to a new computer. The contents of the hard drive are just under 17gb (16.6gb) and were taking from a 80gb HDD. The hard drive i'm trying to restore them to is a 60gb HDD which is still plenty of space for the restore but drive image xml won't allow me to restore as it is saying the hard drive is too small. I know the 60gb HDD is more than enough space for what I want to use it and is the only HDD I have available to use with this laptop, is there any work around for this?
Regards,
Navster
Why do you ask within a Linux/ Knoppix Forum about the usage of a Windows tool?
Greetings, Navster.
Most any Linux system may be used to transfer data from one drive to another.
Knoppix is not likely unique in this regard.
The process is usually quite simple, but it is very unforgiving to inadvertent
errors made in trying to carry things out.
One may, for example, write over and destroy the very material one wishes to
preserve with a very minor misinterpretation of the basic command instructions.
The less familiarity one has with an operating system, the more likely such
an unfortunate error might occur.
It is probably better to stick with the OS you know when undertaking a data
recovery operation. If you haven't already, you might examine what your
options starting with a forum or tech support more closely related to Windows.
If you haven't already, you might start with options apparent at:
http://www.runtime.org/driveimage-xml.htm
If it turns out you are an old hand at Linux, then we need to start over and
discuss the hazardous details in a different way.
Thanks for your reply utu, I'll try looking over at the drive image website
