How do I boot from my PCMCIA CD ROM

Team, I need your help. I have an old 486 laptop and I want to boot from my PCMCIA ROM and run the demo first and then install the software. How do I make the boot disk look and find my PCMCIA CD ROM? My boot disk says it can not find the pcmcia img. What's going on??

    Hi,

had the same problem, so I modified the Knoppix bootdisk.
It worked for me so it might work for you as well.
    Give it a try.
The two floppy images can be downloaded from:

    http://www.luell.com/download/knoppi...ootdisk.img.gz
    http://www.luell.com/download/knoppi...modules.img.gz

    Hope that helps.

    Bye

How do I boot from my PCMCIA CD ROM

I tried to download your files to try it out. But I can't open them to be placed on a boot floppy. WinZip errors out saying that the download is corrupt or not complete.

Can you check them out? I have wanted to get Knoppix on my laptop for some time now and this has been the hurdle I can't get past.

    Thanks.

    PCMCIA boot disk

Thanks for the information! I downloaded both files. My boot disk works but I have no idea what to do with the pcmcia_modules.img. RAWRITE does not install it on my floppy. FOr some reason, it does not find the file. Both files download fine. My original boot disk works...and I can press F3 for more boot options. At the BOOT prompt, I typed in demo=pcmcia and I still get..."could not find kernal image: demo dev =.pcm"

Sorry but I am new to KNOPPIX and need all the help I can get. What do I do now?

Now uncompressed versions of the images plus a short README file are available.
If you still have problems feel free to send me a mail (jochen at luell.com).

If you have problems with pcmcia_modules.img download the file pcmcia_modules_content.zip and unzip it to a formatted 1.44 flopy disk. It has the same content than the image file.

    Good luck

Trying to boot a CD from "CheapBytes" 2003 - 06 - 06 release on a DELL Lattitude Laptop with a PCMCIA compatable RW / DVD CD drive, the initial boot is as expected, with the KNOPPIX version 3.2 Boot: prompt.

Tried every combination that seemed reasonable response like none to "knoppix myconf=scan " etc and only get:
"PCI: Device 00:1f.1 not available because of resource collisions"
    "Can't find KNOPPIX Filesystem..."

The resulting shell doesn't even support "ls", so I'm stuck.

    HELP ????

I don't have a DELL notebook, but I think there were problems when booting Knoppix with PCMCIA support.

On the second bootdisk in the etc directory is the PCMCIA configuration.
Maybe this could be changed to support the DELL notebook (e.g. exclude a memory range).
But this is just a guess.

The shell has no ls command, but you could try to use
    Code:
    echo *
    This should work.

    Bye

You should have another look at luelljoc's floppies.

A new version was release today on his site:
    http://www.luell.com/projects.html#knoppix_pcmcia

Please report back if these work for you!

    Regards,
