    7.7 status

Bought April 2016 LinuxPro Magazine with Knoppix 7.7 LiveDVD.
Available at Barnes & Noble here on April 2, 2016.
Newsstand price is $12.99US plus local tax.

Magazine notes some listed 7.7 features are 'for DVD-only version only'.
--maybe there's still some hope for a CD-version.

    Called-up Synaptic & did reload; noted alioth 'unsigned' warning;
    libc6 2.21-7 24Jan16 installed; 2.22-5 29Mar16 now available.

    Uname -a says 64-bit kernel is 4.4.0.

dmesg | grep fail lists four instances; two sytemd-udevd alsactl-related,
    two systemd-logid service-start-related.
No dmesg instances related to keywords warn, error or corrupt.

    knoppix.version lists 2016-02-05 release date for 7.7.0.
df -kTh shows KNOPPIX 7.7 made up of 3 cloops.
Takes 34 seconds to boot to browser-on-line, 15 seconds to shut-down.

My changes so far amount to a 60Mb cloop when compacted.

    Yet to do
Haven't found evidence for bfq yet.
    Having trouble making firefox autostart.
Otherwise uneventful new LiveUSB install on 8Gb cruzer wih 2 Gb reiser persistence.

Thanks for this news. Does anyone know where one can buy this issue:

    a) at a retail outlet in Montreal (ie. newstand, bookstore) or,

    b) online for shipment to Canada?

Is it so boring just to wait for the next latest and greatest official release?

7.7 brings a lot of things up-to-date and adds a few new things, but for the most part looks to me like 7.6.1.
It makes libc6 a little better, but it is still behind on the very latest patches for libc6.
systemd noises noted on 7.6.1 dmesgs are still evident in 7.7.
7.7 advertises Firefox 45, but my 7.7 iso installed Iceweasel 44.
With a Synaptic reload, one can bring these last two situations more up-to-date.
I'm not aware that BFQ affects anything noticeable in my Knoppix desktop experience,
and I don't have any current need for the new 3d & backup stuff that 7.6 and 7.7 offer.

A singular feature of 7.7 (relative to 7.6.1, for example) is using a cloop solely to bring in Flash for Iceweasel or Firefox.
I expect this is reasonable if Linux/LinuxPro magazines have authority to distribute, where Klaus K does not.
This feature may have been in prior CeBIT Knoppix versions; I never looked at one before.

    Hello,
FYI, I finally got Knoppix 7.7.0 as a VMware 12.1.1 virtual machine guest with 3D & optional persistence with cut & paste and drag & drop working.
    http://knoppix.net/forum/threads/115...l=1#post133709
VMware had a nasty bug which was quite difficult to work around. This vm will also work with previous and other versions of VMware Software.
As usual you will also find an improved minirt (with added kernel modules and improved init script) for nfs, samba and iso boots (32 & 64).
    Best Regards,
    Gilles

It's clear that there seems sure enough to be a Knoppix 7.7 out there, but I can't tell if you actually have the DVD image yourself.
If you do, please tell us the details on getting this image; that is, how? By mail, by download, or what?
The Linux Magazine offer looks to me like just a pdf (text) relating to 7.7, no mention of the iso image.
I hope you can clear this up for us.
    Thanks.
The DVD Knoppix 7.7.0 comes with the printed copy of Linux Pro Magazine April 2016,
I got mine within 2 days after purchasing the printed copy #185 April 2016 edition. They have an office in the United States of America, I think it's in Kansas USA. Very fast delivery. The DVD will be attached to the magazine's printed pages. $12.99 US Dollars.
If you want the Knoppix 7.7 DVD, order the PRINTED copy because the DIGITAL copy does NOT provide the Knoppix 7.7 OS, only the PRINTED copy does! I Google searched for Linux Magazine April 2016 and finally navigated to the ordering page. I had to do some searching after I got on the Linux Magazine page but you will find it in there.

Well it's October now and no release. Is there any update on when it will be available? I think that we've been patient for several months and requesting an update is not unreasonable.
