I seem to have the same issue. US Robotic modem dials out, connects, starts pppd then dies..

    "pppd daemon died unexpectedly"

Would love to see an answer.

i'm having trouble connecting with a modem after knx-hdinstall also.
it works fine running off the CD or off of a normal Debian sarge/woody

    knoppix 3.3
    PCI hardware modem.

in my case there was a conflict between ppp0 and eth0
turning off eth0 (ifconfig eth0 down) allows kppp to work, but how do i change the default route to ppp0 without killing eth0?
i don't want to have to do this each time.
