    Moving server

I have moved host, onto my new server, so there may be some hicups.

currently knoppix.net is being forwarded to knoppix.co.nz ( which is on thw new server ), when the dns change kicks in, knoppix.net will work again.

    no idea sorry,
knoppix.net is completely independant from linuxtag. they were down for a month a while ago, which was partly responsible for making this website! The most downtime I've had in a year is a minute.. but my new server isnt so reliable! what do you think of my case mod?

    Case mod

Very cool! It's amazing what you can make with unused parts and leftovers. I'm trying to get knoppix on a real piece of junk right now. Won't be so junky if I can get it knoppix on it though. Can't get the cdrom to work at all. Win 98 is already on it, but it doesn't have the drivers for the network card so I can't download knoppix. I could probably get them off the 98 cd, but of course the cd isnt working. I'm grabing a copy of tomsrtbt floppy tool disk now to see if I can use it to bring down a copy of knoppix from the ftp site and image it onto a partition of the drive. If it works, i'll have salvaged some otherwise useless hardware like you. If not.... well I probably learned some things. Again nice mod. Even nicer site. Keep up the good work!

    Re: Case mod

--Your best bet is to swap the cdrom drive with either a working cdrom, or a DVD rom drive. They're getting cheap enough now that there's really no reason to make plain old cdrom drives anymore. (And Tomsrtbt probably isn't going to work for what you want to do.)

--Amazingly enough, I was able to copy my Win98SE cdrom to a 100-Meg Zip disk (in 2 passes) and offload the files onto an ancient 486 laptop that has no cdrom drive. I then installed Win98 from HD. Using win98, I got PCMCIA working, which activated my 10MBit PC Card, which let me download Knoppix to the HD. However Knoppix doesn't want to boot on a 486 with 16MB Ram. Bummer. Oh well, maybe I can get Woody to work.

ok, i really need a new server. I'm getting lots of pageviews and this phpbb really scuks some cpu. Currently the load average on the server is 10, so some things may be slow.. i'm still on holiday but i'll try and sort this out soon.
