I've been looking for a way to get Knoppix to work on my Fujitsu Lifebook P-2040 which uses a Transmeta Crusoe processor. The boot process would freeze when loading the ALI3X* driver. I found a workaround is to disable this by putting the IDE devices into ATA66 mode.
Issuing 'knoppix ide0=ata66 ide1=ata66' at start will allow Knoppix to work properly on a Fujitsu Lifebook and presumably other platforms that use the Crusoe processor.
Kudos go to martin dempsey for the answer:
