Try unpluging the power cord for a few minutes then plug it back in and boot.

Well, the good thing is your probbably didn't harm your hard-drive.

I'd bet reseting the CMOS should do the trick but that means cracking the case open(and voiding the warranty). Un-plugging the PC probbably won't do much good because there will be a battery back-up on the motherboard. Hmmm, I'll letyou decide.

Try setting your bios to boot from the hard drive (or put the hard drive before the CD in the boot order).

    Strange problem, though.....

Dells always seem to have this problem, search the forums for more discussion. I think maybe there should be a warning for dell users.

    Alive again!!!

I unpluged the CPU for one day (before only put on-off the pc) and my pc it is alive again. This avoid open the cpu and remove the battery.

Take note all DELL users for Unplug the cpu.

    Tanks all for your support!

P.D. Sorry again by my english.

Hmmmmm- voided warranty just for opening the case? What kind of nonsense is that? No wonder I've never been onclined to buy a Dell. I have had older machines that needed the cord uplugged to reset properly too.

Ihad a similiar problem with my dell 4550, after I set the bios to boot from cd knoppix ran fine. But after I removed the cd and rebooted to windows my computer would not boot. Found that there was an error in the memory module. I had to reseat the memory and then windows booted fine. Just be wary when using knoppix on a dell.

And on a different note I tried to run knoppix on an older compaq and found that the monitor is not compatible with knoppix, a compaq specific problem I am told.
