    general impressions

i must say... knoppix is pretty cool.
any linux distro that finds my ISA sound blaster32 and configures it
correctly gets my approval. all of my other hardware was also detected correctly,
    voodoo3 3000, netgear FA310TX, cdroms, hard drives with win98...
    pretty slick.

my only problem was with my printer, because CUPS did not start on its own.
    [[ i have an hp laserjet 4 ]]

i searched through the forum and there seems to be similiar confusion...
especially since i thought i would need to change to root to correct it,
and trying to use any admin function in the control panel wants a password,
and who knows what that is.

then i read the readme_security.txt file ..... and had a thought..

this is how i got CUPS to work.

    open a terminal window.
    type
    sudo cupsd
    hit return
and wait a few seconds for the prompt to come back.
now you can use the printer manager and configure your printer.

simple really, and if this would have been in the FAQ, it would have saved
    me a lot of time.

besides this little hitch, knoppix is pretty slick.

    thanks,
    michael hallsted

After running RH for about 3 yrs and growing tired of their package management system (RPM). I can say that it is awesome to have Knoppix up and running in no time flat on my laptop.

    Knoppix is awesome.
