has anyone user knoppix customize w/o remastering?

Has anyone tried the tool for changing the boot options in knoppix. (The tools are at http://developer.linuxtag.net/cgi-bi...pix-customize/)

I was especially interested in this because you don't have to remaster the whole cd (which requires 1.5 gb hard drive before you can burn.) Also, so many people have mentioned that after they customized knoppix, speed decreased.

Anyway, specifically what I would want to do with this tool is simply change the background and add some other little features, nothing complicated. I am a novice to knoppix but am learning fast, can anyone offer any advice?

that tool edits the file in hex mode, the problem you will have is the file you replace HAS TO BE THE SAME SIZE EXACTLY as the old one, and with the same name.
