problems during creation of knoppix cd

i have also tried to remaster the knoppix cd, everything i had done is systematic, but when i give the command for creating the compressed file system "KNOPPIX", (as given in documents ), my system shows the process, but after some time, it shuts down automatically, giving the cd out, and tells to shutdown the machine, and after that when i restart the machine again with my cd, and check the size of the file "KNOPPIX" (which is a compressed file system) it shows me 0 bytes,i dont know what is the problem, so plz help me to solve this, its very urgent.

...just diggin´ the forum for some hints....i tried to remaster on different machines, with different knoppix releases, no way
after 50% of creating the compressed filesystem the system freezes / xserver dies, sometimes the keyboard works, sometimes nothing goes anymore.
one time i was getting the message " dma timeout ? "

i followed all instructions in all those different papers online, i even cut_and_pasted the commands. where´s the problem ?

this happens on
amd athlon 1000mhz with 512mb sdram / 1 gig swap for remastering
pentium 668mhz with 384mb sdram / 1 gig swap for remastering
pentium 4 2,6 GHz with 512mb ddram / 1 gig swap for remastering

i am using a new wd and a new maxtor hdd
