LIRC is very great applications for Infra red device bases, and i think it's
very nice if LIRC have been installed on KNOPPIX.

Thank You.

LIRC is cool. You can remote control your PC with any remote and a receiver that is sold on ebay for under 5 dollars/euro.
I learned from Kano today that one needs the complete kernel sources (not just the headers) in order to compile this kernel module. Then you do
cd modules/lirc
debian/rules binary-modules KSRC=/path/of/my/kernel/source/
But then it says that it is not SMP safe, which means that essentially we cannot use it in Knoppix/Kanotix.
Too bad.
Does anyone know of a lirc-like userland implementation?
