Root password not working in Knoppix

Not only the root password won't work. I cant' install anything either.

I'm a new user, so please explain the solution for me in details. Thanks in advance for the help.

Root password is covered in the "using faq" located in the docs section :-

Are you a new to the knoppix CD or HD install?
If CD user - a CD-R is read only, ie if you can't write to it you can't install to it either. (There are some small exceptions, like when using persistent home etc.)

Also have a quick browse through the Docs section. It should get you up to speed on what knoppix is all about and how to use it.

you need to open a root concole (ctrl+alt+F2) and change the root passwd with the 'passwd" command, the return to your GUI console (ctrl+alt+F5) and all will work very well.
