how to print text from program?

could someone give me an idea how to print text from a program like abiword, open office etc.?

what exactly do mean?
do you mean like saving something as a pure text file?
if so, in abiword whwn you go to save it do a save as and then select(from the down arrow menu) Text file(*.txt)
i assume openoffice should be pretty similar
