MEPIS Linux 2003.08 Released

Morgantown, WV; August 31st 2003 - Today, MEPIS LLC *announced the
release of MEPIS Linux 2003.08 for Pentium processors. MEPIS Linux is a
desktop Linux that is designed for both personal and business purposes.
MEPIS Linux offers a live/installation/recovery CD, automatic hardware
configuration, NTFS partition resizing, ACPI power management, WiFi
support, anti-aliased truetype fonts, personal firewall, KDE 3.1.3,
OpenOffice 1.1, and much more.
New Features
With release 2003.08, MEPIS introduces the MEPIS Installation Center
which allows the user to install MEPIS or repair the boot loader,
Xconfig, or make a floppy, all while running from the Live-CD.
The new MEPIS Configuration Center allows the user to reconfigure
network setting, including WiFi, and also to configure the apt (Package
Manger) sources configuration.
MEPIS User Tweaks cleans trash from your user space and empties
caches.
With future releases, MEPIS plans to add more functions to these apps.
Improvements
The Kmenus are better sorted, the package manager resolves dependencies
when installing apps from CD #2, and now PS/2 wheelmice are
autodetected and configured.
SpamAssassin is preconfigured to filter email in Kmail and place up to
98% of spam messages in a spam folder.
Easy
The Live CD makes MEPIS Linux 2003 easy to try before you decide to
install MEPIS on your hard drive.
The autoconfiguration and straight-forward graphical installer make it
easy to install.
The preconfiguration and integration of over 1,200 packages make it
easy to use out-of-the-box.
A second CD contains 865 additional packages that do not fit on the
Live CD. Many of these packages are for internationalization and server
environment support. Over 13,000 other packages are available to be
downloaded and installed.

MEPIS Linux is available for download at
ftp://ftp.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/mepis. The version
2003.08 has been submitted to ibiblio and should be posted soon. *MEPIS
is actively seeking additional mirrors.
As a convenience, MEPIS has arranged for a premium download from its
site for $9.95 USD. Alternately, the MEPIS two CD set is also available
for $9.95 USD plus shipping.
Regardless of how one obtains MEPIS Linux, users are enouraged to
support MEPIS by purchasing registration and 30 days of email support
for an additional $9.95 USD per seat.

MEPIS Linux is derived from the Debian GNU/Linux code base.
Some of the advanced features for users include:
