Problems with Release V3.3 2003-09-22
Problems with Release V3.3 2003-09-22 (and since Prerelease V3.3)
'myconfig=scan' produces the required result except for '.bashrc'. 'My '.bashrc' has been disregarded. Any reason?
The ADSL- USB Speedtouch modem is no langer working. It has been configured according to the instructions of David Abdelli in http://david.abdelli.free.fr/speedtouch/en/index.html and has been working nicely with all the different Knoppix versions since May.
Anybody experiencing the same problems?
Thanks for any help or hint!
Georges.

Hard to understand why no reactions ...
No other people who are feeling unhappy because losing their '.bashrc' with Knoppix 3.3?
Further thought many people are having an USB ADSL Alcatel Speedtouch. And nobody complaining Knoppix 3.3 is not allowing them to use it. Nobody is getting following message when booting Release V3.3 2003-09-22?
"
insmod: insmod: a module named atm already exists
insmod: insmod: insmod: lib/modules/2.4.22-xfs/kernel/net/atm/atm.o failed
insmod: insmod: insmod: speedtch failed
"
In Version 3.3 2003-09-24 (Small Bug Fix?) this error message is no longer there but in both versions the Speedtouch module is available : 'speedtch.o'
Any info or help will be greatly appreciated ...
Regards,
Georges.

1. Download the latest rev (9-24) and see if the problems persist ( http://www.knopper.net/knoppix-mirrors/index-en.html )
2. As a workaround (yes I know it's inconvenient and bugs suck, but here you go) you can ' . .bashrc ' (from your home dir; full syntax would be ' source ~/.bashrc '. Edit .bashrc and throw ' echo "Bashrc ran" ' in there at the end to make sure.

Thanks for reaction.
I had already downloaded the latest 2003-09-24 version.
The problem with my '.bashrc' is that it is no longer there. Must have been overwritten by the skelet '.bashrc'. So "source ~/.bashrc" is possible but has no sense ...
I boot with "knoppix home=scan myconfig =scan". Knoppix 3.3 finds my home and configs on USB memory stick '/dev/sda1' but overwrites my '.bashrc'. (Knoppix 3.2 respected my '.bashrc'!!)
Also : it seems in 3.3 there is a 'speedtouch.o'-module which - I fear - interferes with my Speedtouch settings. But where can I find info on that module. Nothing to be found in the 'Changelog' . And Knoppix without access to the www ...
Anyway thanks for attention.

Georges.

yes, I have allmost same problem.
I have a speedtouch 330, and when I load the firmware into the modem, it reboot, and then it keeps into standby mode (orange light, instead of regular green)
What may be causing this ?

I have the same problem with 3.3 released on 24/9/2003.
Does anybody if this problem has a solution now?
thanks

Same problems remain with the "New V3.3-2003-11-03 release" :
- own '.bashrc' overwritten by squelet '.bashrc'
- same errormessages when booting
- no www-connection possible with the Alcatel ADSL modem
Thanks for any hint or help!

Georges.

it's the module speedtch which is causing problem
You have to type :
modprobe -r speedtch
before trying to connect, see http://david.abdelli.free.fr/speedtouch/en/index.html
(new version with a script) and http://60gp.ovh.net/~knoppixf/phpBB2...pic.php?t=3720

I am having troubles with this latest version of knoppix, i seem to be unable to connect to the internet. I have a Alcatel Speedtouch 330 modem. I've tried diferent forms of instaling it but unsucessfully. The closest i got to connecting was with david's script stated on battouta's post.
It does install my modem and syncronize my line for data transmission but it is unable to establish a connection. Someone tried to help me and said it could be a DNS problem, so i pinged at an IP instead of an URL but i got "network unreachable" confirming i was not connect.
I tried to see battouta's URL (http://60gp.ovh.net/~knoppixf/phpBB2...pic.php?t=3720) but i wasn't unable and it kept guiving me this message
"Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /~knoppixf/phpBB2/viewtopic.php on this server."
I really stuck in this one. Knoopix really looks good, but without a connection to the internet i can't really use it.
Can anyone help me please?
Ah, i must warn you i'm a linux newbie so try to make the explain a "connection for dummies" thing or sugest a script that does everything for me.
Thanks in advance and forguive me for my bad english.
