Knoppix3.3 based DVD- any requests or suggestions?

Well here's your chance to request whatever you would like to see in a Knoppix 3.3 based DVD.

This is just something I'm doing on my own and does not involve Klaus or the rest of the dev's! Please don't ask them about it.

If it's in Debian it should be easy enough to include it in the DVD or at least I will try. If it's not in Debian I will try to compile it but sometimes things just don't work out the way we want. Please provide a link to any apps you would like to see that are not already in Debian because it is most likely that I will be too lazy to go searching for it myself. If you want to make a .deb that would be even better!

Please be specific in your requests- not just "I want an app that does blah...". Some apps cannot be included- for example: proftpd and vsftpd will each want to remove the other.

Should anyone care to host the .iso for download I'd like to hear from you. Also if someone would like to host the Knoppix 3.2DVD.iso send me an email.

I am not promising any specific date of offering this DVD for either purchase or download so please don't harrass me! I will however most likely offer the DVD for sale if there is enough interest in such a thing.

Please be aware that I am not becoming a rich man by selling Knoppix DVD's but rather most of that money has been spent to purchase blank cd-r media, mailers and postage to send Knoppix to those who might not otherwise have a chance to use this amazing piece of work. Thanks to those of you who have spent your hard-earned cash for something worthwhile.

Lastly, should anyone wish to help send me an email and let me know how you can assist.

    Greetings,

This sound like a fun project. I also hope it will
spur the offical KNOPPIX not to abandon the
    DVD distro.

I know that there is a project out there to get NTFS compatibility, and I know that it is not yet ready for primetime, but I would like to have whatever the state of the art is in NTFS read/write/resize capability, even if it may be a bit buggy yet.

The Kino video editor mentioned in another post sounds promising. Presently, I do all of that in Windows.

Any GUI based DVD burner that's easy to use - sort of a K III B for DVD.

Personally, I'd like Shogi and Chinese Chess included in the games, although they probably wouldn't have broad appeal. I found a few on sourceforge and elsewhere that I haven't had a chance to try yet, so if anyone knows of some good ones, your recommendation would probably be better than mine. I particularly enjoy the Tori Shogi variant. If no one else comes up with one, I'll check out a few and provide some links when I get a chance.

    GAIM would be nice.

Definitely keep OpenOffice. If there is an open source equivalent of MS Access, I could sure use it. I've looked, but I haven't found one that I can use.

Are there any other/better Windows emulators than Wine? I haven't been able to make it work for a darn.

Maybe a 2.6 kernel option to play with?

    Thanks,
    JD

All the stuff at http://marillat.free.fr/ is very good though perhaps not w/o complications.

Rezound - a nice sound editor.

I don't know if this is possible but LTSP? (ltsp.org). Only if it could be made to work after a hdinstall (which is a problem for the Knoppix Terminal Server)

Perhaps combining some of the strong features in other remasters. Overclockix has some nice stuff that isn't in the default Knoppix. Also KnoppMyth is very cool...is there a way to build on it?

This is probably too much stuff to worry with, but you asked.

    GAG, at sourceforge, IIRC

If there's room, I kind of like the Firebird and Thunderbird packages of Mozilla , but I realize that both are essentially components of Mozilla, so no big deal.

Fact is, I still don't know that much about Linux applications and what's available to make meaningful suggestions.

An area where Knoppix has been weak is in web server apps. How about some good tools like PHP, an open source Java compiler, PostgreSQL, Quanta, and Apache.

    Hi again,

Like MattT says, server apps would be good.
You can suck in all that good stuff from the original
    ZOPE disk.

We just about have half a DVD by now.

Add request for the Promise SATA PCI controller driver.

    I've failed thus far.
