no, and it wont anytime soon
is there any way to defragment an ntfs file system from a knoppix booted enviroment, this would help me defrag the windows system files after updates
thanx
no, and it wont anytime soon
is there a program for linux that can, i could add it in a remaster?
no. linux doesnt' have write support for NTFS at all ( M$ is nasty )
give a look at: http://linux-ntfs.sourceforge.net/status.html
unfortunately what u are looking for (ntdefrag) is still to develop, but u can see what u can do.
anyway... are u sureit's a good idea to defrag win2k by linux???
bad idea at all i think, just be happy to read and write data. to do this (write on ntfs) u need to recompile ur kernel with write support.
regards, pacho
WRITING IS EXPERIMENTAL!
don't do it. you'll probably lose data, your computer will burn up and your girlfriend will leave you. reading is okay, even better is to dump windows altogether (or, if you have to use windows, at least use FAT. It's an ugly filesystem, but at least you can use it under linux with some certainty).
Now you'll probably try it anyway, just don't tell us we didn't warn you![]()
well if u fear about what can happen anytime u do something u go nowhere. sure backup ur files, then write. it's since the start of 2.4 kernel i write to ntfs, why don't wanna try
well i'm not to brave with my ntfs partition and i do indeed need windows because of many of the programs i can't replace in linux
