Hi,
i'm new in this forum.
My company would like to do some welfare job and beside of that to promote the use of open source in Malaysia. So, we would like to make a copy and distribute to other people who interested to use. Then, my question :
1. For the licensing , do we need to put the disclaimer like at
http://www.knopper.net/knoppix/index-en.html on the CD?
2. Do we need to sign any permisson or get permission form from u ?
Thanks for ur help .
The licencing issues are not THAT clear cut.Originally Posted by sunshine
First, for the whole Knoppix is licenced under the GNU GPL, ( http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/gpl.html ) so you must follow that licence.
However, there are also programs on the CD, which do not come under the GPL ( such as blender ) and have different licencing terms.
If you do not plan to sell knoppix commerically you should be alright as most of the other licences allow that.
When remastering, you may install "vrms" which will list non-free software. Read the licences for those software and decide case-by case if you can distribute them.
this is not legal advice.
Thanks for your explaination.
I shall check & understand the ( http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/gpl.html ) properly.
