Compaq Presario X100 Linmodem help !!

I'm trying to run LiveCD on a Compaq Presario X1000.
It has the Agere97 modem chipset.
Live CD can't detect it.
Can anyone help with instructions on how to get it to work??
Most everything else seems to work...

Thanks for your input.
I followed the instructions for the building the .o files.
The lt_modem.o loaded OK but the lt_serial.0 wouldn't load as it had an incompatability - no such hardware ??? :-(.

I went to the X1000/Linux site, looks like just what I need :-( I registered - but I haven't got any email back from the administrators yet... and you can't email them until you've been registered !!! How long does it take for them to respond ??

I can't change the PNP in BIOS. No option when I use F8 (or is it F10!)
WinXP shows the that the modem is using COM4!!
Mouse is COM1 and the USB->Serial adaptor uses COM2.

Any more advice will ne well received??
