Solved my own problem. It turned out that my directory structure was not correct. By the O'Reilly directions i had an extra KNOPPIX directory in the working filesystem directory.
I have been following the O'Reilly instructions on how to remaster knoppix. I have success coping the data from the cd (compressed) to a partion and then booting. However after i copy the uncompressed filesystem to the disk to make changes and recompress it, the compressed file system running off the HD will kernal panic during boot. It will say that things wern't found. for example
rm: not found
awk: not found
expr: not found
ect.....
....
...
...
Warning: unable to open an initial console.
Kernel panic: No init found. Try passing init= option to kernel
In the above situation i made no changes to the file system. So it should have been the same as the orignal knoppix cd after being recompressed. Does anyone know what to look at to fix this problem
Thanks
Ed
