    nvidia drivers problem

    Hello everyone

I have a problem with my new Nvidia vanta lt(riva TNT2 ??) drivers.
    i downloaded drivers NVIDIA_GLX-1.0-2960.tar.gz ; NVIDIA_KERNEL-1.0-2960.tar.gz
and installed them. however, after configuring my XF86Config-4 - changing in section Driver "nv" to "nvidia", when X starts screen blinks for few seconds and X turn off.
    my kernel is 2.4.22.
    in Xfree86.0.log I found:

from syslog i get the following information:

Knoppix kernel: 0: nvidia: Can't find an IRQ for your NVIDIA card!
Knoppix kernel: 0: nvidia: Please check your BIOS settings.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------
I found out that module loads with warnings, maybe something goes wrong with IRQ, where could I find appropriate IRQ for my card, in BIOS I could find nothing.

I tried to instal driver from NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4496-pkg2.run but nothing changes
However the same situation happens when on my Win98 when I install AGP drivers for my motherboard "PCchips m726", with one difference that windows hangs up.

Thanks for any suggestions from you.

Can we see the /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 you are using especially these sections:
    Code:
    Section "Module"
            Load "bitmap"
            Load "dbe"
            Load "vbe"
            Load "extmod"
            Load "glx"
            Load "record"
            Load "xtrap"
            Load "speedo"
            Load "freetype"
            Load "type1"
    EndSection
    Section "Device"
            Identifier "Card0"
            Driver "nvidia"
            Option "NoLogo" "on"
            Option "NvAgp" "1"
            Option "RenderAccel" "On"
            VendorName "nVidia Corporation"
            BoardName "NV17 [GeForce4 MX 440-SE]"
            BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
    EndSection
    Section "Screen"
            Identifier "Screen0"
            Device "Card0"
            Monitor "Monitor0"
            DefaultDepth 24
    # SubSection "Display"
    # Depth 1
    # EndSubSection
    # SubSection "Display"
    # Depth 4
    # EndSubSection
    # SubSection "Display"
    # Depth 8
    # EndSubSection
    # SubSection "Display"
    # Depth 15
    # EndSubSection
    # SubSection "Display"
    # Depth 16
    # EndSubSection
            SubSection "Display"
                    Depth 24
                    Modes "1152x768" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
    # ViewPort 0 0
            EndSubSection
    EndSection
And was there a section in the BIOS to turn off the Plug'n'Pray and did you turn it off. Something you may want to try at the Lilo screen is type in Linux pci=biosirq when you boot and see if that helps with the card you would substitude the "Linux" for whatever the label is that you have on the screen that you use when you boot.

Those sections look sensible you got a strange one here about the only thing I can see that could be causing any problem is the Option sw-cursor I do not have that set and google has a complete lack of any useful information on your mboard do you have a url where I can look at the specs. One thing you do not mention did you get video when using just the "nv" for the driver if you were getting no video you may want to try using "vesa" and see if that works. Can we see the output of lspci -v the monitor section you are using and the output of when it fails using the 4496 drivers in the X log. Also are you still geting the same messages in the syslog about no irq for the video card?

Are you sure you downloaded the correct driver? Did you try NVchooser.sh (from www.nvidia.com) first to tell you which driver to use?

Are you sure you compiled everything and modified all the appropriate scripts? Why don't you download a script from http://kano.mipood.net and modify it for your driver and let the script take care of all the dirty work?

I recently reinstalled drivers for my Vanta card and went from 150 to 300 fps. That's with a new debian hdinstall. Prior to that, I had an old knoppix hdinstall and used fabianx' scripts to get from 150 to 600 fps. I don't know why the discrepency....

    Regards,
    AJG

OK driver works. I had to change option in BIOS
"plug & play aware OS" to NO
    "IRQ to vga" to YES
thanks Stephen I didn't saw it

Xserver loads and I have nvidia title screen then before logging window appear (I use KDM) mouse cursor dissapears and system hangs up and I have to restart computer!!! I know that this is weird on linux but it happens. XFree86.0.log shows nothing unusual. No errors the only warning was that libvbe.a is unresolved, however I turned off option "vbe" in XF86Config-4 and this warning stoped showing but system still hangs up.
I tried change option SW cursor - nothing.
    any suggestions from you?

Hey It's great, everything works !!!
I modyfied my device section in XF86Config-4 to look like this:
    Code:
    Section "Device"
    	### Available Driver options are:-
            Option "sw_cursor"
            #Option "hw_cursor"
            #Option "NoAccel"
            #Option "ShowCache"
            #Option "ShadowFB"
            #Option "UseFBDev"
            #Option "Rotate"
    	Identifier "Card0"
            Driver "nvidia"
    	Option "NvAgp" "0"
    	VendorName "NVidia"
    	BoardName "Riva Vanta TNT2"
    	BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
    EndSection
    thanks everybody for help

heres a little tip too, if you are using the riva 128, default for an HD install sets the color depth to 16, when it requires 15. i havent tried 24, but ive heard it runs on that too. just wanted to tell you
