HP officeget g85-supported yet won't work

I'm trying to configure knoppix to print to my HP g85. Works great in windows, btw. Went about installing printer on CUPS, using Recommended hpij? driver. The computer detects the printer (listed under the first usb port), installs driver, and even detects if the printer is off or on. Printing however, fails. it does everything right except no output or response from printer. spooling completes almost immediately, and the job is marked as completed. What am I doing wrong??

Go to this page and download the PPD file and on this page use the instructions for the install with cups. On the setup page start with step 2 coping the file to the /usr/share/cups/model/ directory for step 3 you need to /etc/init.d/cupsys restart to restart for step 4 you should cut'n'paste the instructions into a console window (clam shell icon on desktop) as root step 5 is fairly straight forward configure step6 always fails for me but my printer still works you may be able skip it if printing a test page from cups works properly I usually skip the rest as the printer is working properly at this point. On this page there is a link to a couple of Debian packages that you have to install (apt-get install hpoj hpoj-xjopanel) as well you should probably do this before the setup of the printer.

Tried this--didn't get very far. I am a noob, and in my limited understanding nothing under /usr is writable in Knoppix ( right? ). Anyway aren't these drivers _on_ the live CD. Knoppix sees the printer fine, can even detect whether its on, but when I tell it to print, it spools in milliseconds and nothing comes out. The printer doesn't even say "printing"...what am I doing wrong???

I was just reading on linuxprinting.org anf found this:
Why can't I print when I'm using USB?
You're probably trying to print directly to /dev/usb/lp0, which won't work and tends to get this model into a bad state that can only be recovered from by power-cycling the device.

For CUPS, you'll print through the CUPS ptal backend, not the usb backend"
How do i configure this in Knoppix??? PLEASE HELP! Thanks, -Alex

*edit*LOL. Three posts in a minute. Anyway, I'm certain this is my problem, as whenever I try to print from Knoppix using the default configuration, it won't work in M$ Windows again until I power-cycle. *end edit*

Can you post the page where you found that I can not seem to find it and have you went to http://localhost:631 and tried to reconfigure the printer unders the printers link to use the ptal instead of the /dev/usb/lp0 for the output you may also want to try in the KDE Control Center -> Peripherals -> Printers and using it to configure the printer or create a new one with the wizard.
