Hi,

I have been using Knoppix at work to access my webmail, type letters/spreadsheets and browse the Internet connecting through the company's Internet Proxy.

After about half an hour or so, Knoppix will crash magnanimously leaving me in the middle of editing docs, writing emails, etc. It happens practically every time but I do not know what's causing it. Is it a bug?

The error message after the crash, which usually starts with the screen going momentarily blank a couple of times and the mouse/cursor freezing up, is shown below:
Code:
modprobe: modprobe: can't locate module char-major-226
modprobe: modprobe: can't locate module char-major-226
modprobe: modprobe: can't locate module char-major-226

apmd[65]: standing by now
INIT: Switching to runlevel: 0
INIT: Sending processes the Term signal ............
INIT: Sending processes the Kill signal ............
On boor up, Knoppix sees the HDD, floppy and of course the CDROM, but does not see the network (being a n00b I do not know how to configure it and also I am apprehensive of being found out by our network admin - my company is a serious M$ Windoze shop )

Is this crash problem anything to do with the company's M$ network?

Any advice appreciated.
