turtle beach santa cruz sound card problems

hi i am a newbie at this so bear with me

i've disabled my onboard sound so that i can use my turtle beach santa cruz sound card....when i've got knoppix booted and loaded up it doesn't play any sound and detects the onboard sound as default

if i add hardware, i do have manual access to add a sound card but they say i need some files (drivers) and also i have to know the ports and irqs and what not...how do find out the ports and irqs?

Only know half of this one. Use can find the IRQ, ports & I/O under windows in the system control panel.
