You can try passing this at boot:
mem=384M
Just change it to reflect your amount of RAM.
Trying to Boot from CD.... can do successfully from old system but get following error messages on current one...
initrd extends beyond end of memory (0x0bff>ad0> 0x0bff0000)
kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 0:01
Does anyone understand this???

mem=256M
But didn't make any difference.
Yay!!!! Problem solved!!
Tried again using mem=230M... no luck... so tried again using mem=192M as have 64M shared with graphics.... no luck.... tried using mem=190M... just for the heck!!! and BINGO... it worked!!!!!!!
