Haven't checked but I don't think that anything supplied with windows can format any linux types, as in ext3, ext2, reiserfs.....
The hd-install will take care of that.
I'm going to be partitioning my HDD using diskmgmt.msc in windows xp.
Should I format the HDD? (Or will this be done in Knoppix during the install process?)
Thank you.

so should i partition the HDD under windows? or should i leave it unpartitioned and unformated?
sorry if these are stupid questions
Some people complain about problems with windows, and some about difficulties with linux.
qtparted is a fairly easy graphical tool in knoppix for partitioning.
If you have just one hd and want to keep windows you should at least make room for a new partition from within windows.
If you have a new second hd you can just leave it blank and use knoppix for creating partitions, or do the partitions in windows for which Partition Magic is a bit better.
Okay thanks very much!
