Is it possible during a hdinstall to have an option to install only selected SW instead of the whole lot? This would be really great. Anything that you left out - by accident or design - could later be installed with apt-cdrom (?) or apt-get

That is one of the bonuses you have with knoppix you install everything without having to think about it. You may look into Morphix on sourceforge, where you install in modules. That is probly why I use knoppix over Mandrake, less installation questions. You can always remove programs using synaptic in a click click click method.

I actually had a look at Morphix. It looks a bit 'complicated' for my level of 'lack of knowledge'. Maybe later! In the meantime I'll be persevering with my 'light reading' of Linux text books.
