Acer Aspire 1613 LMi, problems with sound & ACPI and ...
Hi, just got my new laptop and started knoppix. first resolution was not realy ok and sound didn't work.
I looked a bit in the forum and started knoppix with screen=1400x1050 alsa and then both problems where almost gone.
The only problem I still have is that the mixer is not working, I can't use either kmix nor alsamixer, but if I start xmms sound works fine and I can turn the volume up and down.
ok the next issue would be these special buttons from the acer laptop to start the browser or mail programm, its not realy necesary but nice to have has anyone managed to use them ?
ok and the next one would be ACPI I don't even know where to start looking, I'm just installing knoppix on the harddisk and I will check out some links posted here in the forum and will post if I managed to get it running or not.
It's realy anoing not to know how long the battery will last ...

Hi dracula,
just bought the same notebook and installed knoppix to the hd. I started it with the screen options you mentioned but without alsa. Havent figured out any problems with the sound yet. The xmms-sound volume works here quite good.
Can you change to shell with Ctrl-Alt-F1?? I can't. *grmpf*
And did you use any special X-driver? The buttons for "Browser etc.." ) can be configured. Found a link yesterday and will post it here.
CU, good luck and write sth if you found out anything new..

Hi,
couldn't find the exact link, but have a look:
Keyboard HotKeys
The Mail, Browser, P1 and P2 button are supported through the hotkeys program. You can get it from
http://ypwong.org/hotkeys/ .
You will need a suitable keycode configuration file. I wrote this one: aspire1300.def
Put it in /usr/local/share/hotkeys or /usr/share/hotkeys depending on your installation, then open an xterm from inside Xwindows and run
hotkeys -t aspire1300 -b
Debian Specific: first
apt-get install hotkeys
then copy aspire1300.def to /usr/share/hotkeys
Finally edit /etc/hotkeys.conf and change the following lines:
Kbd=aspire1300
WebBrowser=opera
Email=mozilla -mail
In this example you associate the Email button to mozilla mail and the Browser button to Opera file and then you won't have to run it manually anymore.
...taken from http://www.nervous.it/hw/linux_aspir...v.html#HotKeys
you can finde the .def file there aswell.
Thanks to Mr NERvOus..
hope this might help...

i've got some problems with the touchpad aswell.. it doesn't run as "smooth" as under Windows. Just jumps a bit more. No idea why... Is it better with the touchpad driver??
