Why-oh-why can't these damn modemstuff be inserted on the cd ?
There should be a a button in the KDE dialup wizard mentioning 'CHOOSE MODEM' .
This is also the case for these DSL usb modems.
A good example on how it can be pulled off is : http://www.ipcop.org .
These guys managed to make ECI based DSL modems work for linux.
So all the solutions are present. Just inserting them...
Like for the printer a phenomenal works has been done !
A LOT of printers work this way now.
What I will do for me now is create install scripts for each type of modem I encounter and put it on the cd. (together with their bin files).
It's like the ntfs-captive driver from the 3.4CT edition=> there's no button to make it happen ! (it keeps requesting these windoze files ,and with the ones from W2K it wasn't happy ! ,so I had to insert the latest from xp ,and it worked).
If anyone knows were to click to make an ECI based usb-dsl-modem work ,or a Lucent based winmodem,or a pctel based winmodem work under knoppix livecd ,please enlighten us
