SOUND WORKS USING command "sudo alsaconf" from terminal
i got this from http://lists.debian.org/debian-lapto.../msg00182.html
alsaconf ran a script and that was all....
don't how i missed it but to all others make sure you run "sudo alsaconf"
i have searched for no sound post and none of them helped so here goes:

as you can tell there are a number of unrecogized devices also does it matter that i have to disable dma to get my system to boot??

Please, can you guide me through this? What is alsaconf?
This is a little late, but just open a terminal. Enter sudo alsaconf at the command prompt and whatever it asks, tell it "OK" When alsaconf is done, run alsamix from the command prompt to set volume levels (or you can run kmix the same way).Originally Posted by Aphex_Twin

By the way i have installed it (knoppix) so do i need recompilation kernel or therer is another way
