sudo dpkg-reconfigure kdm
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86
its asking scaring questions
i am sure i will break the available dsktop by answering the setup
the other 2 reconfigure i did .
still my desk top remains blank but for panel and other things work ok.
can i not reinstall or something the x11 -- is it necessary
the old kde-3.4 was showing alright
i have enabled root login so the sudo part i have not used.
i am logged in as root now.
my comp is p4 845E monitor LG studioworks 520si
the default monitor is working as vesa.
so manual setup of x11 i am not sure.
how else i can get desk top working correctly.
reconfigure kdebase?
100 views still no answer
i tried reinstalling every kde package
dpkg-reconfigure of the kde packages too.
still the desktop doesnot allow any right click menu
nor any picture or screen savers or any icons on desktop
it behaves like xfce without right click.
all things are working with controlcenter even shows desktop images in all 4 desktops
but desktops are remaining blank but for panel.
all other things work correctly.
some one help

Try doing the reverse of what you did....using either (or both);Originally Posted by ramaswamyps

the removal of kdebase tries to install kde-3.4
isn,t this removal and install sameas reunstalling kdebse.i deleted the downloaded file in cache and and reinstalled.
removal of kdebase removes many other dependencies too
instead i am now trying to install xfce and see if some other thing blocking dsktop.
whats the desktop config file which puts the icons on desktop.
i am not convinced its fault in kde.
like the bluetooth blocking extra software installation some lock may be present.
how were u able to install kde-3.5.1?
may be i have done something wrong in disabling the redirection of blutooth lock
i just deleted the lock file.
i think its something with knoppix kanotix files.
also kdenetwork i cannot remove it warns its essential and will kill the system.
removal of software is more difficult than installing.
I don't know ...I'm using a Debian Sarge install and KDE 3.3.2 - you realize installing knoppix to HDD is a booboo(especially updating it)...right?Originally Posted by ramaswamyps

I am merely suggesting to roll-back to when before it was broken -- perhaps you may want to rethink your Distro installation and usage strategy - but I shouldn't assume, since I know not what Distro and/or which version you have installed.may be i have done something wrong in disabling the redirection of blutooth lock

i moved this install to another partition and it died.
so i reinstalled knoppix-4.0.2 and upgraded the kde to 3.5.1.1
now everything is fine.except the new kde removes the juk.
thanks for all supports.
