boot.ini on laptop gone

I've lost boot.ini file on my laptop, internal hdd, ntfs format. What tool can be used to restore this file, as i need now the tool to boot also, as i can't boot normally?

I've used the latest knoppix (5.1.1) for similar activities. The upcoming 5.2 will have the 1.0 released version of ntfs-3g, but if you're in a hurry, 511 should be alright. You can copy boot.ini from another machine, via a USB key or the network using knoppix. If both boot from windows installed on the first (sole?) primary partition on you disk, this should work. Otherwise you'll need to review/adjust boot.ini. Good luck.

Get out your Windows Install CD.

Use it to boot up the computer. Go into the Windows command console where you will do a "repair" to the OS.

Use the command:

BOOTCFG /rebuild

That should give you your boot.ini back.
