Hardware detection after HD install
Is it possible to keep the hardware detection boot sequence after the HD install? This option could make it possible to install Knoppix on removable media and use it on other computers and hardware.

Yes and no. You can extract the Knoppix CD image to the harddisk and put let LILO boot the kernel from the bootimage. This is not the same as knx-hdinstall, take a look at the HdBasedHowTo
Cheatcodes functionalty is lost though. Unless you boot from a floppy, then the bootloader is loaded to display the cheatcode prompt.
