Fatal: Bitmap table has space for only 15 images ?

I have a release 3.7 HDD install failing with:

...
Warning: Unable to determine video adapter in use in the present system.
Warning: The boot sector and map file are on different disks.
Warning: CHANGE AUTOMATIC assumed after "other=/dev/sda1"
Fatal: Bitmap table has space for only 15 images

How do I make the bitmap table bigger ?!

I corrected this error by shutting off my external USB drive during installation.

Apparently it has something to do with too many partitions, or the inability of Knoppix 3.7 to deal with partitions an external USB drive. I have a lot more than 15 partitions on all drives, but less than 15 partitions on each device.
