Radeon 7000 driver

I've just noticed in 3.9 that, although my Saphire ATI-Radeon 7000 - based video card is detected properly, the generic vesa driver is loaded. The correct driver for this card is "ati", as is loaded by Libranet3.0 on this same sytem.
I checked previous versions of Knoppix, and this goes back to at least 3.7.
On my other system, using 3.9, the ATI Rage 128 gets detected properly, and the correct "ati" driver is loaded, so the driver is available.
What's the procedure for requesting that this gets fixed in subsequent versions?
