Compressed filesystem image

Hello all,

I try to remastering a Knoppix live CD from the version 4.0.2 while following this tuto
But , without any change , just copy all files and directorys from /KNOPPIX and remastering it , i obtain an large iso file syze ( ~ 720 MB)

# mount -t ext3 /dev/sda2 /mnt/sda2
# mkdir -p /mnt/sda2/knxsource/KNOPPIX
# mkdir -p /mnt/sda2/knxmaster/KNOPPIX
# cp -Rp /KNOPPIX/* /mnt/sda2/knxsource/KNOPPIX
# mkisofs -R -U -V "KNOPPIX.net filesystem" -publisher "KNOPPIX www.knoppix.net" -hide-rr-moved -cache-inodes -no-bak -pad /mnt/sda2 /knxsource/KNOPPIX | nice -5 /usr/bin/create_compressed_fs -b - 65536 > /mnt/sda2/ knxmaster/KNOPPIX/KNOPPIX

so i use the flag –b on the create_compressed_fs script

what's wrong ?

if u use -b it take 10x slower than without -b

it is for making KNOPPIX image

Yes the compression process take more time...
but why the size of the KNOPPIX file that i obtain is larger than the original file ?

no one can help me ?

From comments I've read in the past, the people who put together the "official" releases use special tools to optimize the ISO image layout. I assume this somehow reduces the image size to be smaller than what the generic tools will create, although the optimization was supposed to be for booting speed.

Other threads have definitely mentioned that remastering causes the new image to be larger, and that something needs to be deleted. It just seems to be the way it works.
