Hello all,

Not being a newbie, I am still stumped by the fact that after my HD install of knoppix I can't get the network to work on my machine. (See this related post for something similar but not exactly like it: http://www.knoppix.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=361#1318 ).

Here are the relevant symptons:

* The network card works fine in windows XP on same machine
* the network card works fine in stock Debian 3.0 on same machine
* the proc filesystem is mounted

Under the knoppix install:

* dmesg | grep eth shows the card being recognized
* pump -i eth0 times out with error
* using ifconfig to manually set an ip doesnt give apparent errors but subsequent pings just fail silently.

The card is a NetGear FX310 (though I've also tried a well know 3com) and the mobo is a gigabyte 800 xxx.

The real stumper for me is that with the Debian 3.0 installation that I've done by hand on the same exact setup, the NIC works just fine. This leads me to believe that some other module that knoppix loads is surfacing a kernel bug but would welcome any suggestions on further diagnosis.

Thanks all,
