Laptop Battery software/ kernel

Can someone tell me where I can get the latest version of APM or equivalent - so I can get battery info on my laptop when I am running my Knoppix partition.

If we knew what kind of system it was, we might be able to help you even more. APM battery info works on my Inspiron 4100 just fine.

Its a medion 2592 laptop. (pentium 4, 2.4Mhz).
