It's a server that translates www.yahoo.com into a real ip address. Look at the output from ipconfig in windows- you will see DNS (Domain Name Server). I have a caching DNS on my router that resolves names locally- alot faster than going to my ip's DNS.

EDIT: Also i don't know how to add those lines to my /etc/resolv.conf file because i run from CD. And when do i add those lines? If i choose YES or when I choose NO and enter the info manually... Thank you
    Ooops- my bad.
So do use DHCP or did your IP assign you a static ip?

What is my Broadcast address ?! And what is a name server ?
Assuming that the windows settings you showed us in your initial post are
for the same machine (!), then you seem to be using dhcp/autoconfig,
probably getting your parameters from your cable modem. So, you
should follow rickenbacherus's advise, and use netcardconfig.
Now I am a little puzzled, as I thought DHCP is the default with knoppix
but I can't say for sure since I don't use it myself.

If you have to try the other way, and specify all the parameters yourself,
you should copy those from your windows config, plus a broadcast address
(which BTW is _not_ the address of a server but serves to determine your
"netmask") of 217.122.38.255 (I think). Plus you have to edit your /etc/
resolv.conf as explained. That's how linux knows which nameserver(s) to
contact when resolving a fully qualified host name such as
    www.knoppix.net into a numerical IP address (69.56.166.99).

And -but that's a detail- as to script, you could have typed that just before
ifconfig/etc... then <Ctrl-D> after the cat, and the output of all those
commands would have been captured in a 'typescript' file easier to cut
and paste than that graphical snapshot.

    Hope this helps,

Because the name "ipconfig" is something M$ invented. In Linux and Unix the command is called "ifconfig", the parameters are also a bit different.

An example, your numbers will be different:
    Code:
    ifconfig eth0 12.34.56.78 netmask 255.255.255.0
I'd suggest you read the ifconfig man page sometime soon:
    Code:
    man ifconfig
