    Problems installing Knoppix and Overclockix

I have tried installing both of these OSs, but I encounter the same problem everytime. About 60% through copying installation files (just after formatting) the screen flickers and turns black. It just stays black. What could the problem be? BTW, the drive is still spinning and reading too. Is it working, just not displaying? Thanks in advance!

I have not tried these installs so I am just making some general assumptions.

If your monitor is not properly identified and configured, then Knoppix can overscan it causing it to go blank just as it would if you deliberately overscanned it in Windows. You can test this a couple ways. Press ctl-alt-(keypad+) or Press ctl-alt-(keypad-) to step through several scan modes. You may see the monitor come back to life. If this is the case, use the "knoppix xvrefresh=60" boot option to force knoppix to run your monitor at 60hz or the "knoppix screen=800x600" to force knoppix to run at the resolution you specify.

Alternatively, you can verify that the machine is still alive by checking one of your virtual terminals. Press ctl-alt-F2. You should see "root@tty2[/]#" If this is the case, it confirms the same problem already discussed in the last paragraph.

    I hope this is helpful.

Sounds like APM problems to disable it boot with knoppix noapm.

Yup seems like your monitor is going to sleep. overclockix uses the older knx-hdinstall script for those reading this thread. I'm about to update both the iso's to have the newer knoppix-installer script.

Remaster + upload time will probably make them available tomorrow morning. Also, I'm going to drop the minimum root partition size from 2.2Gb to 2GB. I have too many 2GB drives that i can't use for the install without editing the installer scripts. Overclockix takes up about 1.75GB once installed.

noapm sounds like a good thing to try.

PS- md5sums for the overclockix iso's should be on the site tomorrow also.

And someone is making a lite-weight IceWM remaster of the technomancer iso. I will likely host the file along with regular overclockix.

3.3 version should be done by the end of the year (technomancer is already like a 3.285 versionanyway in my mind since it was updated in late august 2003). I'm too busy to work on it right now though, but you can hunt me donw here or in the overclockix forum.

    Problems installing Knoppix and OverClockix

Their does not seem to be a problem with your install
it is just the motherboard power saving blanking the
monitor, if you press the space bar on the computer
the screen will light up again, let the install finish.
This behaviour can be turned off in the BIOS turn off
    power management, disable APM.
