CD/DVD Drive Reading Speed vs. CPU Speed

    Hi.
I've tried Knoppix on this computer, which is relatively fast (1.7 Ghz) and which also has a DVD Drive (so it reads CD-ROMs faster). With this one, Knoppix works well and fast.

On the other hand, I've tried Knoppix in another computer (mine ), which is old and slow (133Mhz, 32MB RAM, old CD-ROM Drive etc). When I try Knoppix on that one, it gets so slow that it takes up to 10min to fully load Knoppix. Then again, Windows also takes 10min to load .

So, my question is: is Knoppix slow on the 2nd PC because of the CPU, the CD Drive or both?

    Thanks,
    Migasf

    Slow by memory

    Hello:
Knoppix minimum requirements are not very exaggerated, you can see them

    http://www.knoppix.net/docs/index.php/FaqGeneral[/url]

But if you want to use kde you nedd a little more. Your system is old so youd cd-rom and hard disk are slow, but memory is so important and running X will be very, very slow with 32M, I suggest you trying other desktop than KDE, for example XFCE, it would work faster.
