I think tpctl needs APM
APM and ACPI are mutually exclusive so you might need to replace tpctl with something that can use ACPI instead.
i installed knoppix 3.3 into my system (IBM Thinkpad R40e), and then upgrade the kernel into 2.4.23 (with ACPI support), but after upgrading, the special buttons do not work anymore (for examples: button combinations for brightness, volume, LCD off). Those buttons worked when I still use the original version, i.e. before upgrading the kernel to allow ACPI support.
as far as i know, those buttons are controlled by tpctl package (and this is actually included in Knoppix).
I saw that tpctl is started when my system is bringing up. what could be the problem?
