how to enable login screen in KNOPPIX for authentication
hello friends, i have played a little bit with knoppix, i want to know that how to set up password for KNOPPIX and ROOT user in knoppix, and how to get the login screen, so that we can login using the above accounts and entering the passwords, because when the cd boots, it directly logins using knoppix account and then we can change it to root, using "su" command , but i want that it should give the login screen for login in the users during the boot process so that they can be authenticated , so plz tell me the procedure for that
thanks, its very urgent

As far as I know, you can not login with user name and password wihtin knoppix liveCD boot.
If you make a Hd install with 'knoppix-installer' (when asked, say debian style, not knoppix style), you will be prompted for a unsername and a password, like any other linux/unix login.

You can set the password when running from CD too (but it will of course disappear during a reboot)
Code:
sudo bash
passwd
(you will be asked for the new root password twice)
passwd knoppix
(you will be asked for the new knoppix password twice)
exit

i think if i will set the passwd during remastering of the CD, will it be possible that after creating the CD, it will ask for the password, i will be trying it today,
If any more solution is there, regarding this topic, or any other way of doing it, then plz tell me

You could install getty and alter some lines in inittab for text console. For x, you could start kdm or xdm instead of xsession.

a while back I was able to start an NIS server and get Knoppix network clients loading with the login screen but I don't have all the details. From what I remember, just starting kdm did most of the trick as far as getting a login screen goes.
try booting into runlevel 3 and then run 'xinit -e `which kdm`
1) boot prompt: knoppix 3
2) console prompt: xinit -e `which kdm`
