    SPEAKFREELY INCLUSION

    HI
I THINK IT WILL BE A NICE IDEA INCLUDE IN THE LIVE CD ALSO THE SPEAK FREELY PACKAGE (http://speak-freely.sourceforge.net/).
IT IS A GREAT INTERNET PHONE THAT OFFERS REAL TIME CONVERSATION POSSIBILITY WITH VERY STRONG ENCRYPTION
IT IS FREEWARE,THE .DEB PACKAGE IS ALREADY READY FOR DOWNLOAD
AND IT IS VERY SMALL (ONLY 411.684)AND CAN BE DOWNLOADED FROM http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/s...6.deb?download .

PERHAPS IS TIME TO GIVE TO THE KNOPPIX LIVE CD THE SECURE
    (STRONGLY ENCRYPTED)VOICE CONFERENCE CAPABILITY.

WELL WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THIS?

can you please speak in smallcaps???

aside from that, I think it'd be nice. but is it GPL or freeware??? (free as in free speech vs free as in free beer)

Speakfreely is "in the public domain"

Speakfreely is "in the public domain"and is absolutely free.
Furthermore Speak Freely is a free -cross platform- Internet telephone which provides high quality audio, military grade encryption, and interoperability with Speak Freely for Unix, windows and other RTP-compliant applications.

The actual homepage is http://speak-freely.sourceforge.net/ .

    Greetings magicavis,

If you think SpeakFreely would be a good addition to a
KNOPPIX/KANOTIX live CD -- there is another option.

Configure it so that it can be installed in the directory
    /home/knoppix/SpeakFreely

It will take some work but if you can pull it off it will be cool

Hints: Boot for CD, be sure the version has wish, tclsh
Put your download file in /SpeakFreely
    unp speak-freely_7.6a-1_i386.deb
    unp data.tar.gz
Edit .bashrc (hiden file at home) and add the line
    export PATH=$PATH:/home/knoppix/SpeakFreely/usr/bin
    Edit ~/SpeakFreely/usr/bin/xspeakfree
    the LIB line should read
    LIB=$HOME/SpeakFreely/usr/lib/speak-freely

From a shell change directory to ~/SpeakFreely/usr/bin
    and run . xspeakfree
    ========
Hmmmm it is looking for .xspeakfree.rc in the home directory.
We may have to make one. And there may be a lot more to do.
I am just trying to show you the process for live-installing.
Please get this tested and working with your friends.
If this finally is all working -- then you submit a recipie to
http://klik.berlios.de and a live install will be able
to add this application with one click.
    See also http://www.knoppix.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7997

We can't expect Knopper to do all of the heavy lifting.

    Best Wishes
    paradocs

I am happy to include a klik script for it if someone wants to write it.

In the meantime, you might try out KPhone http://klik.berlios.de/Kphone which does similar things but is SIP compatible, which means that you can use various servers and gateways even to the plain old telephone system.
