    Generic Monitor Problem....

I tried a couple of Knoppix versions. It boots only in text version. It says the display is generic. It's a Pentium II with 96 MB RAM. Could any one tell me how can change the display settings to start X11? During intial stages of booting it asks the display information. It provides options 0 to 9. if i choose 0, it procedds till loading x11.... and crashes. Any help will be appreciated. One more point to note here, I am able to use Windows XP on this machine.

Boot from CD-ROM (Knoppix) and Press F2 and enter the following:

    knoppix language=us desktop=kde screen=1024x768 xvrefresh=60 xserver=XFree86 xmodule=fbdev 5 wheelmouse dma keyboard=us

Once in X, open an konsole and su <password>,
kcontrol and Control Center will launch. Peripherals-->Display ,
    set up your settings.

CHANGE screen=1024x768 to screen=800x600 if it fails.
Leave wheelmouse out if you don't have one.
vga=norma if screen=800x600 fails. This will still boot x.

REF: http://developer.linuxtag.net/knoppix/bootdisks/ , here you can
download boot-en.img and write it to an Floppy.

    Copy rawrite2.exe | mkfloppy.bat | boot-en.img to Windows,
    modify the mkfloppy.bat (boot-en.img) and launch rawrite2.exe.
This makes you an English Lang Boot Disk for Knoppix CD.
