MINI PCI Intel Pro Wireless 2100 3B and Knoppix 3.6
Hello everybody,
some days ago I've posted my problem in the notebook section of this forum - no answer or tip was given. So I tried and tried and tried - but nothing worked.
Is there any possibility to access wireless lan via IPW 2100 3B? I see, the driver is loaded, and I can scan the network for ESSID's but i am not able to set the ESSID id via "iwconfig eth0 "XYZ" - the encryption key can be set via "iwconfig eth0 enc ............." - I think my problem is the ESSID - it remains empty - no chance to get any value into it.
Has anybody an idea to solve this issue? Yesterday i checked out a netgear pcmcia wlan card - and it worked fine. But I want to use the onboard mini PCI wlan card.
Is ist possible that the driver for the card included in KNOPPIX 3.6 is not working correctly?
thx for answers and helping.

so - the problem is finally solved - i tried out kanotix bug hunter 09 - and there was the same problem. But in the kanotix forum it is solved. To get the MINI PCI working you MUST set encryption mode "open" instead of "restricted" and everything works fine !
nice day...

same problem
Hello,
I have the same problem with my notebook that you described with your
2200BG. Today I tried the first time knoppix 3.6 on CD without getting connected wireless. So, I don`t really understood your solution. Do I have to download a driver? It would be great if you can explain a little bit more exactly what I have to do after bootin with knoppix.
Thx in advance.

That's how I made my centrino wlan card running:
Booted with knoppix26
Next I ran ndiswrapper(btw what a silly name is that?? How does anybody know that's the app you need to get the ms drivers running under linux??) and filled in .inf file of the wlan card (named w70n51.inf and placed in program files/intel/wireless/drivers on my computer)
Then I ran the wlanconfig(or what it's called- it's in the knoppix menu right next to the ndiswrapper, and it's mentioned in the ndiswrapper first box). I suppose you don't need to fill much in there, default setup should be ok- provided you don't want to connect to some encrypted access point.
Should be running then.
Btw does anybody know how to shut the wifi card down? Saves power a lot. Thx

There are already drivers for the IPW2100 3B included in KNOPPIX - simply type "modprobe ipw2100" in a console as root and the card is up - it's the driver from http://ipw2100.sf.net - I think the newer drivers supports also the power managament of this card.
